Shop Foreman & Mechanic – Central Ohio Operations

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Shop Foreman & Mechanic to join our Central Ohio operations. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing equipment maintenance and repair operations while managing shop personnel and ensuring efficient workflow.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee and perform maintenance and repair of heavy civil construction equipment in both shop and field environments.
- Balance responsibilities between hands-on mechanical work and management duties (approximately 50/50 split).
- Communicate effectively with company management, field personnel, and equipment department leadership.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with field supervision to support operational needs.
- Work closely with the Shop Manager and Equipment Manager to track budgets, control costs, and oversee maintenance personnel.
- Conduct annual performance reviews for mechanics and support their professional development.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to mechanics, enhancing their diagnostic and technical skills.
- Ensure adherence to safety and maintenance protocols while maintaining a clean and organized work environment.
- Create and manage in-shop work schedules while maintaining accurate records in HCSS Equipment 360.
- Manage in-shop and field repair operations, including parts ordering and vendor coordination.
- Travel to job sites as needed for equipment servicing and emergency repairs.
- Be available for daytime, night, and weekend shifts as required.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Extensive experience in equipment management within a heavy civil construction environment.
- Strong mechanical expertise, particularly with diesel engines, hydraulics, and electrical systems.
- In-depth knowledge of major equipment brands, including Terex, Caterpillar (CAT), John Deere, Ingersoll Rand (IR), Volvo, Komatsu, Kenworth, and CASE.
- Ability to read and interpret schematics, diagrams, and technical manuals.
- Strong leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Exceptional teamwork, communication, and customer service abilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and a willingness to become proficient in HCSS Equipment 360.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Ownership of tools applicable to the position.
- Valid driver’s license required.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
This role may directly supervise a team of five or more employees within the Equipment Department. Responsibilities include:
- Interviewing, hiring, and training employees.
- Planning, assigning, and overseeing work activities.
- Conducting performance evaluations and providing feedback.
- Managing employee relations, including conflict resolution and disciplinary actions, in accordance with company policies and applicable labor laws.

Working Conditions:
- Ability to work with occasional exposure to dirty and dusty conditions and the possibility of extreme weather conditions.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to safely push/pull a large tool box up to 1,000 lbs.
